Sealents

Are sealants really necessary for chilren to have on their teeth - i never had them done and yes I got some cavities but it was only when I got my braces on. I heard really bad things about sealants - they are time realeased flouride and that is technically a carcinagen however you spell it it is the things that cause cancer - so I am a little weary on sealants.
